Quick Answer: Split top king sheets (also sold as split head king, FlexTop King and Upper-Flex King) have one king fitted sheet slit down the middle at the head only, for a single mattress whose head splits but whose foot stays joined, such as Sleep Number’s FlexTop King or Saatva’s Upper-Flex King. Before you buy, measure your mattress split: Saatva says its Upper-Flex split runs 30 inches from the head, while Sleep Number parts maker Magic Sleeper puts the FlexTop head split at 34 inches. On November 4, 2026, the cheapest split-head king set from a maker store was DreamFit’s StaDry at $149.97, and the split-head version of a set typically cost $20 to $65 more than the same set in regular king.

A split top king bed causes a problem a regular sheet can’t solve. The two heads rise separately, but the foot half is one piece of mattress, so neither a regular king fitted sheet (one closed piece) nor a split king set (two Twin XL sheets) fits it properly. Only a handful of bedding makers sell the right size, and they don’t all use the same name for it. We compared the split-head sets from DreamFit, PureCare, Saatva and Cariloha using the makers’ own size charts, product pages and return policies, all checked on November 4, 2026. We did not test any of these sheets ourselves. If you have two separate Twin XL mattresses instead, you want split king sheets: see our adjustable bed sheets guide.

Split top king vs. king vs. split king: which sheets you need

Sleep Number’s support center gives the cleanest definitions: an Eastern or California King “is one mattress,” “FlexTop is one mattress with a split head,” and “Split King is two mattresses side by side.” Its FlexTop beds “adjust each side of the head separately and adjust the foot together,” while split sizes adjust both head and foot separately.

The flat sheet, comforter and pillowcases are all standard king for every type in this table. Only the fitted sheet changes. If you’re still choosing between the base styles themselves, our split king vs. king comparison covers the trade-offs.

Which beds are split top?

The split-length check most listings skip

This is the detail that decides whether a split-head sheet works on your bed. The slit in the fitted sheet has to reach at least as far down as the split in your mattress. If the slit is shorter, the fabric bridges the bottom of the mattress split, so every time one head rises it pulls against the seam at the end of the slit. If the slit is longer, you just get a loose flap on the flat part of the bed, which is the safer mismatch.

How to measure: raise one head section a little, then measure from the head edge of the mattress down the center seam to the point where the two halves rejoin. Compare that number with the sheet maker’s slit length, and if the maker doesn’t publish one, ask customer service before you order. Saatva and Sleep Number owners can also stay in-brand: Saatva sells its own Upper-Flex fitted sheets, and Sleep Number sells FlexTop-size bedding on its own site (its store blocked our requests on November 4, 2026, so we don’t list those prices here).

1. DreamFit StaDry Sheet Set: lowest price, most split-head choices

DreamFit StaDry Sheet Set (Split Head King)

$149.97 split head king ¡ $119.97 king ¡ polyester ¡ 15" pocket
  • DreamFit's own size chart (post-wash) gives the Split Head King fitted sheet as 78" x 80" with a 15" pocket, and the Split Head Cal King as 74" x 84" with a 14" pocket.
  • Uses DreamFit's 1.5" color-coded FirstFit corner bands; DreamFit says the StaDry fabric is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified.
  • Split head sets include 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet and 2 pillowcases, per DreamFit's product page.

DreamFit is the brand to start with if you want options: on November 4, 2026 its store listed split head king in nine sheet lines, from StaDry at $149.97 through 100% Long Staple Cotton ($199.97), 100% Pima Cotton ($249.97), Egyptian Cotton and Organic Cotton Percale ($299.97 each) and Enhanced Bamboo ($319.97 to $329.97, depending on which of DreamFit’s two listings you land on) up to its quilted Enhanced Bamboo set at $649.97. The DreamFit split-head collection also covers Split Head Queen and Split Head Cal King. One quirk: in several DreamFit lines the split head king costs the same as the two-fitted-sheet split king, and in its Luxe Bamboo line the split head king ($379.97) is actually $20 cheaper than the split king ($399.97).

The catch is the return policy. DreamFit’s FAQ accepts returns within 30 days only if items are unused, unwashed and in their original packaging, so measure your mattress split before you order rather than after.

2. PureCare Weightless Cotton: best for deep mattresses

PureCare Weightless Cotton Sheet Set (Split Head King)

$239.99 split head king ¡ $194.99 king ¡ 100% long-staple cotton ¡ up to 18" deep
  • PureCare says all its fitted sheets fit mattresses up to 18" deep, using a 1" elastic cuff and cinched "Precision-Fit" corners.
  • Flat sheets are cut 4" wider than usual; the Split Head King flat sheet is 112" x 106", per PureCare's size list.
  • 1-year limited warranty and a 30-day return policy, per the product page.

PureCare has the deepest stated pocket of the sets we compared, which matters if you run a thick mattress plus a topper. Its Weightless Cotton set is sold in Split Head Queen ($194.99), Split Head King and Split Head Cal King, and the split head king costs the same $239.99 as PureCare’s split king version. PureCare also sells split-head sizes in its Refreshing TENCEL Lyocell ($389.99) and Soft Touch TENCEL Modal ($324.99) lines, though both carry a bigger split-head premium of $60 and $65 over the regular king.

3. Saatva Sateen Cotton (Upper-Flex): best for Saatva owners and easy returns

Saatva Sateen Cotton Sheet Set (Upper-Flex King)

$235 Upper-Flex King ¡ $215 king ¡ 300 thread count ¡ up to 16" deep
  • Made for Saatva's own Upper-Flex mattresses, whose split Saatva says measures 30" down from the head.
  • 300 thread count long-staple cotton sateen with deep pockets for mattresses up to 16", made in India, per Saatva.
  • 45-day returns with no restocking fee, including used sheets (Saatva asks that you wash them first); 1-year limited warranty.

If you own a Saatva Solaire in Upper-Flex, this is the lowest-risk choice because the maker built the sheet for the mattress’s known 30-inch split. It is also the most forgiving return policy here: Saatva’s bedding FAQ says products returned within 45 days of delivery get a full refund with “no restocking or penalty fees for used products.” The Upper-Flex King costs $235 (the same as Saatva’s split king) and Upper-Flex Queen costs $215, per the Saatva Sateen Cotton page.

4. Cariloha Classic Bamboo: longest trial

Cariloha Classic Bamboo Sheet Set (Split-Head King)

$269 split-head king ¡ $249 king ¡ 100% bamboo viscose ¡ twill weave
  • Cariloha offers a 100-night trial: "Refund or exchange for any reason," per its product page, plus a 1-year warranty.
  • Sold in Split-Head Queen ($249) and Split-Head King; Cariloha's Resort Bamboo line also comes in split-head king at $319.
  • Cariloha does not list a pocket depth or slit length on the product page, so check both with the company before ordering for a thick mattress.

Cariloha is the only maker here where the split-head king costs more than its own split king set ($269 vs. $259 in Classic Bamboo), but the 100-night trial is the longest return window of any set we compared, which takes most of the risk out of a split-length mismatch.

What the split-head size really costs

The split-head premium is real but small. Here is what the same sheet line cost in regular king and split head king at each maker’s store on November 4, 2026:

Sheet lineKingSplit kingSplit head kingSplit-head premium vs. king
Saatva Sateen Cotton$215$235$235+$20 (9%)
Cariloha Classic Bamboo$249$259$269+$20 (8%)
DreamFit StaDry$119.97$149.97$149.97+$30 (25%)
DreamFit 100% Long Staple Cotton$169.97$199.97$199.97+$30 (18%)
DreamFit 100% Pima Cotton$199.97$249.97$249.97+$50 (25%)
DreamFit Luxe Bamboo$329.97$399.97$379.97+$50 (15%)
PureCare Weightless Cotton$194.99$239.99$239.99+$45 (23%)
PureCare Refreshing TENCEL Lyocell$329.99$364.99$389.99+$60 (18%)
PureCare Soft Touch TENCEL Modal$259.99$289.99$324.99+$65 (25%)

Across these nine lines, a split head king set cost $20 to $65 more than the same set in regular king. Because the flat sheet and pillowcases are standard king, the spare king flat sheets and pillowcases you already own still work; only the fitted sheet has to be split-head.

Returns, washing and the first fit

Split-head sheets are a specialty size, so the return policy matters more than usual. One detail catches people out: Sleep Number’s bedding care guide says its sheets “must be washed before use because they are cut larger at the factory to allow for shrinkage,” and DreamFit’s size chart lists “finished sizes, post wash.” An unwashed sheet can look too big on the first fit. But DreamFit only takes back unwashed items, so you can’t wash to check the fit and still return it there.

Don’t forget the layers under the sheet

Anything between the mattress and the fitted sheet needs the same split, or it will bind just like a regular sheet. DreamFit sells waterproof protectors in Split Head King (its StaDry protector was $119.97 to $129.99 depending on the listing), PureCare’s Bamboo Mattress Protector was $229.99 in Split Head King, and Cariloha’s Signature Jersey protector was $179. Sleep Number’s DualTemp instructions make the same point for its heating and cooling layer: on a FlexTop King, leave the top set of buttons unattached so each head can move. Our mattress protector guide covers protectors for the other bed types.

The bottom line

Split top king sheets are for one specific bed: a single king or Cal King mattress whose head splits while the foot stays joined, as on Sleep Number’s FlexTop and Saatva’s Upper-Flex. Regular king and split king fitted sheets both fit that bed badly. Measure your mattress split first (Saatva publishes 30 inches, and a Sleep Number parts maker cites 34 inches for FlexTop), then pick by budget and return policy. DreamFit StaDry ($149.97) is the cheapest split-head king set from a maker store, PureCare Weightless Cotton ($239.99) fits the deepest mattresses, Saatva’s Upper-Flex sheet ($235) is the safe match for a Solaire with the friendliest returns, and Cariloha Classic Bamboo ($269) has the longest trial.
